Our park has taken leaps and bounds in the last few years. We have been busy adding to and improving upon this jewel in the heart of our neighborhood. If you have been to the park lately, you will have noticed some great things happening. And if you have not been, please take a moment to see what has been going on.

Leisure Skating and Hockey

Park 96 boasts some of the best outdoor ice in the city. We have a dedicated team ensuring the ice is at it's best, we even have our own Zamboni machine. Our main building is set up for getting in and out of your skating gear. Our leisure skating rink can accommodate quite a crowd. And if you get chilly on those family skate nights we have a gas fire pit covered by a large gazebo. Perfect for resting and warming up with a hot chocolate.

The Playground

2006 was a year of change in the park and the playground was not overlooked. After having the old wood play structure inspected, it was decided to replace it with a state of the art play structure. A crew of volunteers from Parkland built the new structure and it is one of the main attractions for all the community monkey business. Aside from the main structure there are three other fun-filled stations. Our park caters to all age groups. There are several smaller structures that ensure your toddler will be well-conditioned as they grow into the more advanced areas of the playground. The teeter totters were removed as well as the large metal slide in our continued effort to provide a safe and fun environment for the kids.

The Cook House

The cookhouse was also completed in 2006. It is a beautiful outdoor facility that offers smooth cement counter tops, a built-in cooler - just bring the ice and a gas barbeque that will make any chef look good. The cookhouse can be booked for kids birthday parties, family gatherings and small scale functions. Use your imagination – the possibilities are endless - but don’t leave booking it for too long. It is a very popular stop in the park. To book your party contact the Park directly.

Water Spray Park

This is the place to be on a hot summer day. The spray park became operational in 2006 and what a great summer we had. A definite hit for the kids and their parents who got to sit back and chat with friends and watch the kids play. Don’t have any kids, invite the grandkids or come for a spray yourself!

Tennis and Basketball Courts

With the recent addition of the courtside gazebo, located between the double and triple tennis courts, spectators and players can enjoy the game with this convenient retreat. New large overhead lights on the triple courts allow a game or two at the end of your day. Bring your basketball to the Park and shoot a few hoops on our courts. There’s always the opportunity for a game of one-on-one, or three-on-three with other like-minded basketball enthusiasts; or just practice your free throws.

Disc Golf Course

Disc golf is one of the fastest growing sports in the America and enthusiasm for the sport is moving north. Park 96 is recognized as one of the best tracks in Alberta. In 2006, our Park hosted the Alberta open for third time in the past five years. The game has many of the trappings of golf including aerobic exercise, intimacy with nature, and muttered cursing. It is inexpensive to get started; takes about 90 minutes to play 18 holes and you don’t have to wear funny pants. Like any worthwhile pursuit it may initially drive you crazy but within a few rounds it can get into your head. You then have the luxury of the thrills of golf, at no cost, minutes from your door. Bring your own discs or borrow some from the Park office or shop. If you have a group that is interested in learning the game, give us a call and we'll put one of our "resident professionals" to work. The Alberta Disc Golf Association organizes spring/summer league play every Tuesday at 6:30 pm, rain or shine. For more information on the league, and disc golf in general, please visit Alberta Disc Golf website
